In September 2007, on the auspicious occasion of Vinayagar Chaturthi, a young doctor couple from a humble village background took their first step toward a dream that would eventually grow into a comprehensive healthcare institution.
What began as a modest clinic at Perumal Koil Street, Swarnapuri, under the name Dr. Sharmila Senthil Kumar Fertility and Surgical Clinic, was built on a simple but powerful belief — quality medical care should be accessible, ethical and compassionate to everyone.
Nearly two decades later, that small beginning has evolved into STARMED HOSPITAL, a modern hospital offering comprehensive care across Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Fertility, Urology, Andrology, Nephrology, Paediatrics and General Surgery — led by the husband-and-wife team whose professional partnership, perseverance and commitment to learning have shaped the institution.

Dr. G. Sharmila is well known amongst the circles for her expertise in Obstetrics and Gynecology, laparoscopic surgery and fertility care, with advanced fertility training completed in Germany. Her husband, Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, is a Urologist, Andrologist and Kidney Transplant Surgeon who trained in General Surgery, Neurosurgery and Urology at Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai.

STARMED HOSPITAL was founded on a simple promise — to bring reliable, affordable and compassionate fertility and kidney care to families in Salem. Over the years, that promise has grown into a trusted healthcare destination for the community.
On the auspicious occasion of Vinayagar Chaturthi, Dr. Sharmila opened a modest clinic at Perumal Koil Street, Swarnapuri, under the name "Dr. Sharmila Senthil Kumar Fertility and Surgical Clinic."
Inspired by his wife's dedication, Dr. Senthil Kumar (already practising paediatrics) pursued MS in General Surgery, turning their marriage into a professional partnership in medicine.
As the patient base grew, the couple upgraded to a day-care centre at Kalaimahal Street, Swarnapuri, while Dr. Senthil Kumar served over 10 years as Assistant Professor in Neurosurgery & General Surgery at Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital.
Dr. Senthil Kumar was selected for MCh Urology at Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai, adding kidney transplant and andrology expertise to the hospital's services.
